Carol singing
Once again, we joined forces with the Farrant Singers and toured some streets in Salisbury singing carols. We were blessed with dry weather. We collected money for our funds and it was a very successful evening. Thanks to the Farrants, to the collectors and our hosts for the evening, Michael and Chantal who provided the vittles both before and after. An enjoyable evening and many residents came out and listened to the singing.
December group minutes
The December group minutes are now available thanks to group member Lesley for preparing them. Busy meeting and we touched on forthcoming events, the death penalty report in particular.
Meeting
Monthly meeting takes place this Thursday 14th at Attwood Road Salisbury starting at 7:30 and all supporters are welcome.

Our regular monthly meeting takes place tonight at 7:30 in Victoria Road as usual. All supporters are welcome and we will discuss the usual range of activity and future events.

Attached are the minutes for the group meeting held on Thursday 12 October 2017 thanks to group member Lesley for preparing them. A full agenda covering the death penalty, North Korea, upcoming events such as the film at the Arts Centre, Citizenship day, an exhibition at the Library and the plans for the Celebration of Human Rights in 2018.

Group meeting minutes available
The minutes of the last group meeting are now available thanks to group member Lesley for compiling them. We discussed the death penalty report, the forthcoming performance on 18th by Ice and Fire, next year’s proposed Celebration of Human Rights and other planned events.
Ice and Fire tonight
Ice and Fire performed the Asylum Monologues at Sarum College in the Close on Monday starting at 7:30. This was a FREE event. A report of the event is on a later blog.

Ice and Fire to perform in Salisbury
The performing group Ice and Fire are to perform in Salisbury at Sarum College on 18 September starting at 7:30. The performance will consist of readings from testimonies of refugees, human rights lawyers and home office workers, to show how the system of asylum seeking and acquiring refugee status works in reality in the UK. It forms part of Amnesty’s continuing campaign to highlight the plight of refugees and how they are treated here.
There is considerable hostility to refugees and asylum seekers with many stories in our tabloid newspapers of such people abusing the system. People are led to believe that hoards are arriving here and living in hotels by the seaside and costing the country huge sums of money. The reality is the UK has only 1% of the world’s refugees and has received around 3% of asylum claims made in the EU.
The event is FREE but there will be a parting collection.
